by ACT1 TheaterNon-Union Audition
ACT1 Theater
“Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”
Auditions: Monday, April 14th at 7 pm or Wednesday, April 16th at 7 pm
Call back auditions April 19th at 2 pm
Rehearsals begin May 4th at 2 pm
There will be understudies for some roles in Joseph!
This show requires adults and children (grade 6 and up only). Ages listed are what the actor needs to be able to portray convincingly. Note that the actor should LOOK the age listed… actual age does not matter. Due to the nature of this show, the desire for great choreography and the need for a large range of parts with limited theater space, there really are no small parts; many actors will portray multiple roles and all will have significant stage time. This is truly an ensemble cast and will be a second family!
Men:
Joseph – 16 – 30. Interprets dreams and is his father’s favorite child.
Jacob – 50 – 70. Father of 12 sons.
Eleven Brothers – 16 – 40. Some roles have major singing parts, others will double as support roles.
Potiphar – 30 – 60. Powerful and rich Egyptian.
Pharoah – 20 – 40. Most powerful man in Egypt. Elvis impersonators highly desired!
Two Men – 20 – 40. Serve misc. roles such as Ishmaelite slave traders, Egyptian assistants, Baker and Butler.
Women:
Narrator – 20 – 50. Guides the audience gently through the story.
Eight Wives – 16 – 40. Will double in other scenes as saloon girls, dancing girls, etc.
Mrs. Potiphar – 20 – 30. Beautiful and scheming.
Kids:
Eight School Kids – Male or female, will end up as a mixed-gender group. Students should be 6th grade at a minimum. Must have great voice and volume, and must be mature, professional and well-behaved.
Everyone who’s auditioning will be expected to sing one or more range-appropriate numbers from the play; lyric memorization is not required and vocal scores will be available, but auditioners are advised to be familiar with the production numbers. In addition, auditioners will be taught some basic choreography onsite and be expected to perform a short dance audition at performance level. Headshots are appreciated but not required.
The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles (country, calypso, 20’s, disco and rock & roll).
This production is non-equity, all-volunteer. No audition fees apply.
ACT1 Theater is based out of Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, 180 Academy Street, Alpharetta, GA 30009.
This production runs July 18th – August 10th, 2014.
